Clark County at Work: Quam’s Carpet Cleaning

By Mary Ricks, Columbian News Assistant

Business name: Quam’s Carpet Cleaning.

Reuben Quam

333 N.E. 105th St.

What the business does: Reuben Quam said his family has been in the carpet-cleaning business more than 25 years, handling both residential and commercial accounts. Along with cleaning, the business does carpet stretching, seam repair, patching, spot dyeing, pet odor and urine removal, fogging for cigarette smell and mattress sanitizing.

Steps to build your business: The company is advertising in The Columbian’s Coupon Marketplace and updating its online presence. Recently it expanded into cleaning dryer vents and air ducts, a process that includes a video inspection to show before-and-after results.

Greatest challenge:
Keeping company vans and equipment maintained, and being able to accommodate customers on a moment’s notice.

Favorite part of the job: Quam said he enjoys having satisfied customers and watching three generations grow in the family business.

What’s ahead: The carpet-cleaning company is planning to expand its territory across the greater Portland area. In the future, Quam wants to be able to provide health insurance for his employees.
