An on-duty Woodland Police officer suffered minor injuries Tuesday night in a head-on crash on Pacific Avenue, according to the Woodland Police Department.

A bulletin from the department said Officer Terry Casey, 41, was driving south on Pacific Avenue near Hoffman Street around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday when a northbound Ford Explorer SUV driven by April Wessinger, 28, of Woodland crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Casey’s patrol car head-on.

Both drivers wore seat belts, and air bags deployed in both cars.

Casey suffered minor injuries, including a sprained wrist. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

Wessinger, who possibly fell asleep at the wheel, was not injured, the bulletin said.

Casey’s police car was totaled. The Washington State Patrol in Vancouver is investigating the crash.
