Contenders start race to replace Rep. Norm Dicks

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — State Sen. Derek Kilmer announced Monday he’s running for the seat in Congress that Rep. Norm Dicks is giving up after 18 terms.

Kilmer is a Gig Harbor Democrat who works as vice president of the Pierce County Economic Council. He says he’s focused on creating jobs.

The Kitsap Sun reports (http://is.gd/Iw9M0q ) three Republicans have already declared for the 6th District seat: Gig Harbor lawyer Doug Cloud, Port Orchard businessman Bob Sauerwein and Gig Harbor software consultant Jesse Young.

Other Democrats reportedly interested in the race include Kitsap County Commissioner Josh Brown, state Sen. Jim Hargrove of Hoquiam, Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy, state Sen. Christine Rolfes of Bainbridge Island, state Sen. Tim Sheldon of Potlatch, former state Auditor Brian Sonntag and Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland.
