Salmon Creek — These kids are the very picture of health: running, cartwheeling and kite flying. Vancouver artist and retired school art teacher Rebecca Anstine painted them on a wall outside the seven-bed Legacy Salmon Creek Pediatric Emergency Department in February. Anstine’s proposal for the mural was chosen from a field of 15. The mural is “a tribute to the healing spirit of children” according to a plaque mounted beside it. In addition to those robust children, it also depicts two real dogs — service dog Sasha and therapy dog Muka.

“All I can say is, it was a pleasure to do this,” said Anstine. She will be completing several more murals for other pediatric departments and offices at the hospital.
