Letter: Pets’ worst enemy: Cruel people

The Columbian
Published: April 30, 2012, 5:00pm

It was another sad story on horses. (“Riding to rescue of horses,” April 26).

Horses are pets and, like dogs, are also man’s best friend. Abuse (please don’t use the word neglect) should be completely unacceptable and these abusers need to be held accountable, a lousy citation doesn’t do it.

If you can’t afford your pets or livestock and choose to let them suffer and die, so that others have to take care of those that manage to survive, nothing short of jail time and to never be allowed to have animals again will suffice.

There isn’t any real deterrent for uncaring cruel people.
