More than 1,200 Vancouver-area residents are expected to take steps to improve their heart health on May 19 when they participate in the American Heart Association’s Heart & Stroke Walk.

The annual event, which raises money to fight heart disease and stroke, begins at 8:30 a.m. at Vancouver Landing, 610 Esther St. The 3-mile walk includes survivors and their families, teams of employees from local companies and residents of all ages.

The event will also include heart-healthy recipe cards, free blood pressure checks, activities for kids, stroke awareness resources and fitness machine demonstrations.

Former American Idol contestant and Vancouver resident Britnee Kellogg will perform the national anthem.

For more information on participating in the walk, visit http://www.pdxheartwalk.org or call 503-233-0100.
