MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manager Alex Ferguson says Paul Scholes will play one more season for Manchester United.

Scholes initially retired last year after United won the Premier League title, but returned to the team in January after injuries to other players.

Ferguson said Monday at the team’s end-of-season banquet that the 37-year-old midfielder will return for one final season to help United try to unseat crosstown rival Manchester City, which won the league title on Sunday after a dramatic last-gasp comeback against Queens Park Rangers.

Ferguson reiterated his stance that Scholes made a mistake when he announced his retirement last year.
