Washougal councilman Jon Russell will step down in early July to take a job representing an anti-abortion organization based in Virginia, he informed city administrators Tuesday.

Russell, 36, is leaving his post as a regional coordinator for Students for Life of America to become the nonprofit organization’s national coordinator in Manassas, Va. In addition to abortion, Students for Life of America also opposes euthanasia and infanticide.

Russell has served on the council for six years and is currently its mayor pro-tem. He will step down July 1, he said. His first day at his new job will be July 9.
