OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Department of Social and Health Services says a worker in a Pierce County office took food benefits worth more than $3,200 by using a former client’s EBT card.

The department says 44-year-old Tammy McElroy of Graham was arrested Tuesday by the Washington State Patrol and jailed for investigation of Unlawful Redemption of Food Stamps.

She worked for DSHS since 1998 and has been a financial services specialist since 2003.

McElroy is accused of using an Electronic Benefit Transfer card a client had turned in in September 2010 to close his basic food assistance.

The client discovered in April that his account had not been closed. DSHS launched an investigation that found store video and transactions showing McElroy using the EBT card.
