The goal of a community forum from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 28 is to identify and help teenagers at risk of suicide. The forum’s venue is Building C, Room 20, at the former Lewisville Middle School, 406 N.W. Sixth Ave., Battle Ground.

Parents, teachers, counselors, clergy, teens and the public are encouraged to attend the forum titled “Suicide, the Silent Killer: We Are Not Going to be Silent Anymore.” Keynote speaker is James J. Mazza, professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington.

From January through November, Battle Ground had two youth suicides, 49 threats and 17 attempts. Over the past nine months community leaders have been meeting to try to determine why Battle Ground and the surrounding communities have a high rate of teen suicide.
