I am concerned about all the yearly Christmas advertising that bombards us all, with big-box stores enticing us to save a ton of money on cheaply made merchandise. It sickens me that we as a nation happily fork out our hard-earned money to buy cheap, poor-quality toys and other items that have been made in China.
I am asking everyone to think differently this year. Why not look to your local merchants, the Mom & Pop stores on the street corners, and support our local economy? The spirit of Christmas and the holiday season is not about how much money you can save by getting up at 4 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving to get the best deals. It shouldn’t be about buying cheaply made plastic toys that fall apart in the first year. It should be about supporting our local economy by giving a gift that is meaningful and that lasts a long time.
If you are going to shop this holiday season, please shop local, buy local, and support your local shops.
