CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Acting Miami athletic director Blake James says he’s ready to face the challenge of leading the Hurricanes.

James got word Thursday that he will be at least the temporary replacement for Shawn Eichorst, who resigned to accept the same job at Nebraska. James calls the days that have followed “a whirlwind,” especially given all the attention that was on the Miami-Notre Dame football game on Saturday night.

Speaking from Chicago at halftime of the Hurricanes-Irish game, James says he’s “very honored and very excited” to assume the role.

It’s a challenging time for Miami athletics, with NCAA sanctions expected to come next year. James says his plan is simply to address whatever happens “and you move forward.”
