SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers have signed 28-year-old rookie wide receiver Marques Clark to the practice squad.

Clark was with the New Orleans Saints in training camp. Most recently he was the wide receivers coach for Westview High in San Diego, his hometown.

Clark played at Henderson State, where he had 91 career passes for 1,456 yards and 11 touchdowns. He spent the last six years out of professional football.

Also Thursday, running back Ryan Mathews practiced in pads. Coach Norv Turner says he’s confident Mathews can make his season debut Sunday against Atlanta if he doesn’t have a setback. Mathews has been out since breaking his collarbone on his first carry of the exhibition season on Aug. 9.
