Prep roundup: Golberg’s hit lifts River to win

Oscar Golberg watched as his opponent walked the bases loaded to get to him in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Then Golberg made sure the game would not get to the ninth inning.

Golberg’s shot to left field scored the winning run Monday, giving Columbia River a 4-3 victory over Prairie in a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League baseball game.

Bryson Oury started the winning rally for River with a lead-off walk. He was bunted over to second by Brady Benson, then moved to third base on a ground out.

Prairie walked the next two batters to make a force play at every station, leading up to Golberg’s game-winner.Golberg also pitched three innings of hitless relief to pick up the win.

Stars of the day

SOFTBALL: Battle Ground’s Carly Hershberger hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie as the Tigers went on to defeat Prairie 2-1.

BASEBALL: Brooks Hansen and Braydon Maney each drove in two runs as first-place Skyview beat Camas 8-3.

SOFTBALL: Kim Reed was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI in Mountain View’s 6-2 win over Evergreen.
