Letter: Doubt not at level of potential

Regarding coal and oil terminals coming into Vancouver and Southwest Washington, everything has a potential environmental health-damaging impact. Modern science, equipment, and technology ensure catastrophes from happening.

If Vancouver votes it out then someone else will be processing those products and taking the jobs. I grew up poor in the Depression. Heating our old home with two parents and 11 children came from any source we could find. The biggest was from a railroad spur that came near our house. It carried mainly coal, and chunks vibrated off. We picked them up for fuel. Pieces were put in our pockets, bags or front of our shirts. Coal dust was everywhere. My point is that there were no heath issues in this huge family either by burning coal or handling it.

Let the facilities be built.
