Girls basketball: Kelso 48, Hudson’s Bay 23

Kelso’s full-court pressure set the tone early as Hudson’s Bay was eliminated from the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League tournament.

Kelso (14-8) outscored the Eagles 13-4 in the first quarter, and had a commanding 30-9 lead by halftime.

Kelso locked up a spot in the bi-district playoffs and will play Mountain View at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the next round of the district tournament. Thursday’s winner will face Prairie on Friday for the district championship. Both games will be at Columbia River High School

Ten players scored for Kelso, led by Sierra Richards’ 10 points.

Bailey Freeman (eight points), Paris Collins (seven) and Lynnese Harrell (six) accounted for all but two of the points for Hudson’s Bay. The Eagles finished with a 6-15 record.
