Rebuilding of one lane of Interstate 5 near Ridgefield could cause delays starting Friday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Crews will close the right lane of northbound I-5 near the Ridgefield weigh station for one week. During that time, workers will repair a half-mile stretch of deteriorated pavement by removing the old surface, excavating the roadway to a depth of nearly 2 feet, then rebuilding the lane with new rock and asphalt, according to WSDOT.

The lane will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to noon Aug. 2. Crews will also complete maintenance work at the weigh station, according to WSDOT.

The work is part of a larger, $6.1 million paving project on I-5 between Northeast 179th Street and the North Fork of the Lewis River Bridge.

The project is scheduled to be finished this fall.
