Construction crews today began a series of alternating street closures as heavier work resumed on an expanded state Highway 14 in Camas and Washougal.

Workers planned to close Second Street at the highway at 8 p.m. both tonight and Tuesday night until 6 a.m. the following mornings. The street will close again from 8 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday.

Nearby Union Street will close from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, then again from 1 to 6 a.m. Friday.

The closures will allow crews to complete bridge work on the newly raised highway, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The work is part of a $49 million expansion of Highway 14, elevating and widening the roadway over a four-mile stretch east of the West Camas Slough Bridge. Crews also plan to repave and stripe the highway in the coming months as weather allows, according to WSDOT.

The entire project is expected to be finished this summer.
