Firefighters battle house, brush blazes

Fire caused an estimated $8,000 damage to a house at 3411 Grant St. about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Capt. Kevin Murray said Vancouver firefighters brought the fire under control in minutes. He said the upstairs blaze was caused by a small appliance. The home was undergoing a remodeling project. The owners were not displaced.

The house is owned by Russell Johnson and Jennifer Nielson, according to Clark County property records.

Also about 3:30 Sunday, Fire District 3 quelled a 4-acre brush fire at 212th Avenue and Northeast 279th Street. The fire threatened two structures, officials said. District 3 responded with an engine, two squads and a water tender and Clark County Fire & Rescue assisted with two squads. The Department of Natural Resources was contacted and responded, and will be conducting an investigation. officials said.
