HELSINKI (AP) — Latvia ended France’s hopes of reaching the quarterfinals at the ice hockey world championship on Monday by winning 3-1 after goals from Martins Cipulis, Janis Sprukts and captain Lauris Darzins.

The result means the pressure is on Austria in the later match against reigning champion Russia to reach the final eight.

Individual mistakes by defensemen enabled Latvia to lead by two goals. Cipulis and Sprukts also contributed an assist each, while Julien Desroziers scored for France.

In Stockholm, Philip Larsen, Mikkel Bodker and Morten Green scored as Denmark beat Belarus 3-2.
