Washougal — Washougal High School students learned that death doesn’t have to mean dread during recent lessons on Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. High schoolers decorated sugar skulls and learned about Latin American traditions late last month in their Spanish language classes. Day of the Dead, celebrated on Nov. 2, is meant to be a time to celebrate life and the people who have come and gone. “Students learn about the different way a culture looks at death without the unnecessary dread or horror that we’ve seen in some societies,” said Washougal High Spanish teacher Brian Eggleston.
