An attic fire did extensive damage Saturday to a house in Battle Ground, according to a Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman.

The fire at 17 S.E. 11th St. was reported at 10:39 a.m. by a neighbor, said Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy.

It took firefighters with Clark County Fire & Rescue and Clark County Fire District 3 about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control. The fire spread quickly through the attic, causing considerable damage. It also spread to a kitchen area, Dawdy said.

No one was home at the time of the blaze. The residents had spent the night at a hotel because of a small electrical fire in the attic the day before, Dawdy said.

The Fire & Rescue, the Clark County fire marshal and an electrician were called to the residence to examine the electrical fire and put out the small blaze, he said. The residents left their cat with a neighbor who noticed the smoke pluming again from the attic today, he said.

The fire remains under investigation, he said. A damage estimate is not yet available.

John and Kelly Higgins own and live at the house, according to Clark County property records.
