GRANITE FALLS — A Granite Falls police sergeant was demoted in August after city officials discovered that he had a bogus identification card saying he was the police chief.
Through a public records request, the Everett Herald reports that an investigation by outside police agencies concluded that former sergeant may have committed felony forgery.
But the former town police chief says the findings were never forwarded to prosecutors at the request of Mayor Haroon Saleem.
Patrick White was demoted to patrol officer and given two weeks’ suspension without pay. The 46-year-old returned to duty in September and is appealing his discipline.
The investigation also found that White had been dishonest and insubordinate. A review of his work in recent years showed that he failed to file 46 percent of his reports — essentially half of his work.
