Archery skills offered at youth fishing event

Young anglers at the Klineline Kids fishing event at Salmon Creek Park Friday and Saturday also will get a chance to learn archery skills.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it will provide three-dimensional deer targets and compound bows.

Agency staff also will discuss the results of releasing nonnative plants and animals into the ecosystem. Klineline Pond has Eurasian milfoil, an invasive species.

Mount Hood sports camps merging

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — Two rival sports camps on Mount Hood are merging.

High Cascade Snowboard Camp and Windells Camp are combining as We Are Camp, LLC.

High Cascade has been a 100 percent snowboarding camp, while Windells is a skiing, snowboard, skate and BMX camp. Both operate at Timberline Lodge and have campuses in Government Camp and Welches.

For summer of 2014, High Cascade and Windells will operate from their respective campuses, but High Cascade campers will have some activities at Windells’ skateboard park.

Volcano institute schedules outings

Registration is open for a variety of summer field seminars, guided climbs and more on Mount St. Helens.

Offered by the non-profit Mount St. Helens Institute, the events include field seminars covering the geology and biology of the volcano, overnight trips into the crater and travel to Spirit Lake.
