Boys basketball: Battle Ground 38, Ransom Everglades (Fla.) 27

The Tigers won the defensive struggle against the team from Florida in the first round of the Phoenix Cactus Jam.

Battle Ground lead 16-11 at the half and increased the advantage to 26-16 after three quarters in the game played without a shot clock.

Devin Johnson had 13 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Tigers (4-3). Andrej Besara led the Tigers in scoring with 15 points and also had four assists.

Battle Ground next plays Concord (Del.) in the semifinals on Monday.
