Nominees for high school winter sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the two-week period ending Jan. 4. Voting will conclude at 8 p.m. Thursday with results published in Friday’s Columbian.
CHERITA DAUGHERTY, PRAIRIE GIRLS BASKETBALL: Daugherty averaged 14 points a game and was selected the MVP of the Surf Division of the Surf ‘N Slam Tournament in San Diego. She then added 19 points in a win over Union.
CODY GROMES, UNION BOYS WRESTLING: Gromes won the 195-pound division at the Pac Coast Championships helping the Titans place third overall.
ALAN HAAGEN, HOCKINSON BOYS BASKETBALL: Haagen averaged 16 points a game, including the title-winning 3-pointer, was selected the MVP of the San Diego Division of the Surf ‘N Slam Tournament in San Diego. Then he added 24 points in an OT win over Prairie.
