The Thunder earned their first win of the season in the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League, staying alive for the league’s fourth-place playoff spot.

Alex Torson scored 23 of his game-high 28 points in the first half, helping Mountain View build a double-digit lead. The Thunder led 40-28 at halftime and led by 18 early in the fourth quarter.

“We attacked tonight. We had some guys step up and attack the basket,” Mountain View coach Aaron Shepherd said.

Corey Henderson scored 18 points and Kyle Johnson added 14 for the Thunder, who won for the second time in 18 games this season. Mountain View is 1-7 in league play.

“These kids have stuck it out and battled,” Shepherd said. “It’s nice for them to be rewarded with a win.”

Tyler Barton scored 24 points and DeWayne Whitley 22 for Hudson’s Bay (5-13, 2-6). A win on Thursday would have tied Hudson’s Bay with Fort Vancouver for fourth place. The Eagles close league play next week by visiting Kelso and hosting Prairie.

Mountain View closes its schedule with a home game against Fort Vancouver and a game at Kelso. Two wins could potentially tie the Thunder with the Trappers for fourth place.
