Boys soccer roundup: Union, Camas get rematch after both survive elimination

Canaan Moore scored two goals in less than a minute in the second half and Jesus Gutierrez played a standout match in goal, leading the Union boys soccer team to a 3-1 win over Kentridge in a loser-out match in the 4A bi-district playoffs in Sumner.

With the win, Union will face Camas on Thursday in a winner-to-state match to be played a site in Clark County. The loser of Thursday’s match will get another shot at a state berth on Saturday.

Aaron Anitok-Brokken gave Union an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the fifth minute. The Titans looked as if they would take that 1-0 lead into halftime before Kentridge scored to tie the match.

In the 57th minute, Moore connected on a free kick after the Kentridge goalkeeper was ruled to have made contact with the ball outside the 18-yard box.

A minute later, Moore tallied his second goal to put Union up 3-1.

Kentridge kept the pressure on Union, but Gutierrez recorded 11 saves in goal, including eight in the second half.

CAMAS 3, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 2, OT — Luke Jones converted a penalty kick in overtime as the Papermakers survived a loser-out match in Sumner.

Camas fell behind 2-1 in the 65th minute but pulled even a few minutes later on a goal by Markku Laukkanen.

Luke Manandic scored in the first half as Camas took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

3A District 3/4 Playoffs

BAINBRIDGE 2, MOUNTAIN VIEW 1 — Finn Reynolds scored the winning goal in the 75th minute to bring the Thunder’s season to an end.

Mountain View’s Joseph Hensel tied the match with a goal in the 36th minute assisted by Xavier Perez-Saucedo.

TIMBERLINE 2, HERITAGE 1 — The Timberwolves saw their season come to an end in a penalty kick shootout that went 10 rounds before the Blazers prevailed 8-7.

Elliot Maldonado put Heritage ahead in the 54th minute but Timberline tied the match 10 minutes later.

2A District Playoffs

HOCKINSON 2, ABERDEEN 0 — Alonzo Flores and Carter Cameron scored first-half goals as the Hawks survived a loser-out match at home.

Hockinson next travels to Chehalis on Thursday for a winner-to-state, loser-out match against W.F. West.

1A District Playoffs

SETON CATHOLIC 3, EATONVILLE 0 — Sam Soto scored two goals as the Trico League champ Cougars cruised to a first-round win.

Eli Wall assisted Soto’s first goal then put Seton ahead 2-0 on a goal assisted by Soto.

The Cougars will host King’s Way Christian in a winner-to-state semifinal on Thursday.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 4, RAYMOND-SOUTH BEND — The Knights dominated on the road to earn a semifinal clash against Trico League rival Seton Catholic.

Seton Catholic won both Trico League matches against King’s Way in penalty-kick shootouts.

Goal details were not available.

MONTESANO 3, LA CENTER 2 — Callum Bradley and Logan Rainey each scored as the Wildcats gave the Evergreen Conference’s top seed a tough test in a first-round match.

Logan Smith had seven saves for La Center, which entered halftime tied 1-1.

The Wildcats face Columiba-White Salmon or Elma in a loser-out match Thursday.
