Letter: Heated remarks stoke resentment

Jane Sturm’s July 10 letter, “Women dealt a major setback,” derives statements from Democratic left-leaning talking points, which stokes resentment in uninformed voters. Sturm fuels the “War on Women.”

Democrats agreed with male justices regarding Roe v. Wade, not finding issue then. Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s, D-Calif., comments on the Hobby Lobby decision were entirely misleading. Fox News Channel host Megyn Kelly was correct in challenging Pelosi’s remarks. Other news organizations didn’t check facts. Politifact.com agreed with Kelly’s statements.

As a woman and independent voter, I find it exhilarating that Hobby Lobby is allowed religious freedoms. Holly Lobby only had issues with four types of birth control out of the 20 required by federal law that they had provided — is that a real “War on Women”?

I will never define myself as a woman by birth control issues. I find it offensive that liberals lump women into this category. I have always paid for my own birth control, not relying on anyone else to pay for it. Those women who can’t afford $10 a month, there is the option of help from Planned Parenthood.

Liberals who think contraception is a major issue in women’s affairs should check out women in the Middle East. They are the real product of a “War on Women,” not inaccurate statements and ideology employed by the left.
