Camas-Washougal — Earl Scott, a long-serving captain with the Camas-Washougal Fire Department, retired Friday after nearly 23 years of firefighting in the community.

Scott spent most of his time working in Washougal on building code enforcement and firefighter safety programs.

His departure leaves a vacancy in the department.

Ben Silva, a firefighter and paramedic, has been promoted to replace Scott, and the department is looking to hire someone for Silva’s former position. Silva began working at the Camas Fire Department in 1999 and has since worked on vehicle design, mapping and the department’s safety program.

The department issued a statement Friday afternoon, thanking Scott for his work and congratulating Silva on his promotion.
