The Americans got on the board 48 seconds into the third on a goal by Rodney Southam to cut Portland’s lead to 3-1, but the Hawks got that one back when Paul Bittner scored at the 3:53 mark to regain a three-goal lead. They padded the lead when defenseman Josh Hanson scored on a wrist shot to make it 5-1 at the 12:30 mark.
