Letter: Comparisons unfair

In Carrie Ross’ May 1 letter, “Lifestyle prompts reasons for alarm,” she compares homosexuality with pedophilia. To suggest pedophilia is caused by gay marriage is like comparing apples to oranges. Just like sexual orientation both apples and oranges are fruits, but comparing them together is ridiculous.

If you are going to compare sexual orientations then compare similar orientations like pedophilia, incest and rape where attraction is of a consenting adult to a nonconsenting, innocent, helpless victim, or sour apples.

Now let’s compare oranges where homosexuals and heterosexuals are two loving, consenting adults attracted to each other and willing to deepen that relationship with a commitment to marriage, and the sweet fruit of love.

Ross concludes there’s no scientific evidence that homosexuality or pedophilia is inborn. Babies don’t have sexual attraction to anything. No orientation is inborn, so when did she choose to be heterosexual? This is a fair question because choosing can open you up to being victim of pedophilia or incest as a child and rape as an adult. Marriage can lead to incompatibility and divorce. That is a lot of sour grapes. Which brings up an interesting point. Marriage between only a man and a woman is also not inborn.
