Conner Thompson scored a goal in the closing seconds of the first overtime, sending the Hockinson boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory and into the Class 2A state quarterfinals.

Hockinson will travel to play the winner of Wednesday’s Sumner-Squalicum game on Saturday.

After Fife took a 1-0 lead into halftime, Hockinson evened the game midway through a second half with a goal by Mitchell Pinney.

In the overtime, Brett Sparks sent a cross to Thompson, who shot the ball right through the Fife goalkeeper for the win.

“It was like a tale of two halves,” Hockinson assistant coach Marc Stegmaier said. “We’ve had eigth come-from-behind wins this season. As as soon as we get down, we’ve had the ability to turn into another gear and go to a new level.”

Class 3A

Mercer Island 6, Mountain View 0 — Mercer Island jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the half, then poured it on in the second half, ending Mountain View’s season in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.

“Not much to say. We just got outplayed,” Mountain View coach Jeff Brooks said. “It was a good season, but a tough one to end it on.”

Class 1A

Bellevue Christian 5, Seton Catholic 0 — Seton Catholic’s third trip to the state tournament in as many seasons ended in the first round.

“Great team. They deserved to win,” Seton Catholic assistant Mick Kadow said of Bellevue Christian.

The Cougars are proud of their season, too.

“Every year, we’re going just a little bit further. This is our fifth year and we finished higher in the district than we ever have,” Kadow said. “Progress every year.”
