Special Olympics bowlers pile up medals

The Clark County Hi Rollers earned 150 medals during the Southwest Washington Regional Special Olympics Bowling Tournament.

The tournament held Oct. 19 at Allen’s Crosley Lanes included bowlers from seven teams. The teams were the Clark County Hi Rollers, Vancouver Dolphins, Longview-Kelso Alley Cats, East Lewis, Grays Harbor Hawks, Grays Harbor Panthers and the Lewis County High Rollers.

The Clark County Hi Rollers won 56 gold medals, 55 silver medals and 39 bronze medals during the tournament. They also won 26 fourth-place ribbons and three fifth-place ribbons. Elizabeth Francis, Bonnie Abernathy, Jennifer Crothers, Jason Gallagher coached the Clark County Hi Rollers.

The names of Clark County bowlers who participated are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Soccer silver — The Clark County Special Olympics Senior Unified Cougars won silver medals at a soccer tournament on Oct. 25 in Salem, Ore. The team played three matches. Special Olympics athletes and Unified Partners on the team were: Alex Ables, Daniel Barich, Payten Brooks, Justin Dalton, Jamie Gough, Ryan Hallquist, Estevan Rosales, Alex Tetz and Wyatt Tetz. The team was coached by Barry Gill and Jessica Blair.

Special Olympics basketball — A sign-up meeting for the basketball season will take place 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Pied Piper Pizza, 12300 Fourth Plain Blvd. Anyone interested in participating in Special Olympics as an athlete with intellectual disabilities, Unified Partner (individual without intellectual disabilities), as a coach or other volunteer can contact Rick Cook by email at CCSOWA@live.com.
