A Ridgefield man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly fleeing from a crash site and leading Oregon police on a high-speed pursuit, according to the Multnomah County (Ore.) Sheriff’s Office.

Around 10 that night, deputies were sent to the 23800 block of Northeast Holladay Street in Wood Village, Ore., after a car struck some property and fled eastbound.

Deputies spotted the suspect vehicle, a gray Honda coupe, on Interstate 84 west and pursued the vehicle until it took off at a high speed, the sheriff’s office said.

Portland police officers then followed the car until it exited Interstate 405 at Salmon Street in Portland. An officer used a technique of pushing the vehicle into a controlled spinout. The vehicle came to a stop, then went into reverse and struck a patrol car, the sheriff’s office said. Other patrol cars arrived and boxed in the coupe.

They arrested George Scruggs III, 40, and booked him into the Multnomah County Jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit and run), three counts of reckless endangerment, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
