Letter: Explore responses to both genders

I saw recently on Fox News a video and discussion about catcalling of women in New York City. The video that they showed was a woman walking around New York City and having things called out to her. Lately this video has gotten a lot of media coverage and in the discussion on Fox News some very interesting points came up.

Being a feminist means that I want gender equality for everyone and while this video shows what most women are subjected to on a daily basis, it makes me wonder what would happen if this same experiment was done on a man.

How would the public respond to the same type of video if instead of a woman walking the streets, a man took her place? Would there be the same outrage as there was by the video of catcalling done to a female? Also, how do men feel about being catcalled if they are at all? Is there a part of the male population that is subject to this type of abuse?

While the discussion and the catcalling video opened people’s eyes on what daily life is like for some women, it only describes part of the female population and eliminates the male population entirely. I urge you to consider these questions and perhaps even find an answer to them.
