A motorcyclist who died Monday in a crash near Silver Falls State Park south of Silverton, Ore., was identified as a Vancouver man.

Patrick C. Hope, 67, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Highway 214 about 2:30 p.m. behind another motorcyclist, according to the Oregon State Police.

While going around a curve, the Harley-Davidson struck a tree and Hope was thrown, according to state police. The motorcyclist riding in front of Hope didn’t see the crash but noticed that Hope was no longer behind him so backtracked and discovered the crash.

An air ambulance with Life Flight was called to the scene, but police said that Hope was pronounced dead before he could be transported. He was wearing a helmet.

Police are continuing the investigation into what caused the crash.
