A Hudson’s Bay High School student was struck by a Vancouver Public Schools bus at 7 a.m. Monday morning.

Cmdr. Dave King with the Vancouver Police Department said the student was crossing the street at East McLoughlin Boulevard and Grand Boulevard when she was hit. King said the student was transferred to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. An official with PeaceHealth said the student was treated and transferred to another hospital.

King could not say if the student was in a crosswalk or what injuries she sustained.

KATU-TV reported that the student is Kelcie Huntley, 15, and that she had a broken nose, a broken cheek and a fractured pelvis.

Pat Mattison, spokeswoman for the Vancouver school district, said the school bus driver will be placed on leave during the investigation. The bus driver, who’s been with the district for 18 years, also will be tested for drugs and alcohol use.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a commercial vehicle inspector with the Washington State Patrol inspected the bus.

The third week in October is School Bus Safety Week in Washington.
