Letter: I-594 imposes too much control

The Columbian

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has said universal background checks would be a good start. Good start for what? Is that what Washington state’s Initiative 594 is all about?

President Obama has said we want to know who you are if you buy a gun. Is that why he praised Australia’s “buyback” program, a massive round-up and destruction of more than 1 million registered semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, even confiscated from licensed gun owners? I often wonder why we don’t hear much about our fellow citizens all across America, defending themselves with their firearms from the criminals who are trying to do them harm. At least some periodicals report that kind of news.

How much power to we intend to give to the government?
