Letter: Take comfort, there’s always ‘hope’

What is going on at the Big W (the White House)?

Last week, Vice President Joe Bidden reached out to the Middle East with beloved text from the Medieval Crusades telling the Islamic State we would “follow them to the gates of hell.”

This week it is the “W” word. John Kerry reassured us we were not involved in a war. Indeed, that boat trip he took in the Vietnam era was a pleasure cruise and he even got a medal for it.

But wait, the next day we were updated that we are involved in a war with the Islamic State. I was encouraged that much of President Obama’s speech on the war/non-war with the Islamic State was reassurance that the economy could not be in better shape. It helps to have redefined the economic indicators so that even if we were taking wheelbarrows of cash to the supermarket to buy potatoes, our federal government could reassure us there is no inflation.

For those of us who in 2008 voted for President Barack Obama and who might be getting the jitters, I have found it helpful to Google and meditate on Shepard Fairey’s 2008 Campaign poster of Barack Obama labeled “Hope.”
