Letter: Two qualities to size up candidates

Last week, we were introduced to Grandma Hillary Clinton, who is running for president. Grandma Hillary is a kind, elderly lady who will give us cookies and warm milk when we get home from kindergarten. Don’t worry; she’ll take care of the big problems.

Let me suggest three questions to ask yourself when evaluating presidential candidates:

  1. Do I need a baby sitter or am I an adult who is capable if given opportunity?

  2. Do I have a job that adequately supports my family and where I can fully use my abilities?

  3. Are things really better off after six years of elitist government in Washington, D.C., where one-size-fits-all solutions have been put in place to solve our diversity of problems?

I suggest that each candidate who runs for president wants to make things better for Americans and leave a positive impact on this country. What we need to examine are the principles of the candidate for how they think the federal government can bring about real benefit and improvement of day-to-day life.

We need a candidate with two qualities:

  1. Leadership.

  2. A moderate who can work with both parties.

Then we can get back to governing and solving the many problems of 21st century America.
