Vancouver — The Vancouver branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is hosting a series of forums throughout the year with the theme “America’s Journey for Justice — Our Lives, Our Votes and Our Schools Matter.” This Saturday’s kickoff at Vancouver Housing Authority, 2500 Main St., considers the “lives” element. It starts at 10 a.m. and will go until at least noon.

Speakers from the Vancouver Police Department, Washington State Human Rights Commission and American Civil Liberties Union will talk about crime prevention, community resources, careers and diversity training.

“We want them to give a birds-eye view of what they do,” said Rev. Marva Jackson, president of the local NAACP.

Those who attend are encouraged to ask questions and join the conversation.
