A Cowlitz County man died Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash on state Highway 503, about seven miles north of Amboy.

Keith Wilson, 49, of Ariel was driving his red 2015 Yamaha motorcycle north on the highway near Milepost 27 at about 7:30 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a turn, according to a memo from the Washington State Patrol. Wilson was thrown from the motorcycle as it left the roadway and skidded down an embankment, the memo said.

Wilson, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was involved in the incident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, WSP said.

It wasn’t the only serious motorcycle crash in north Clark County over the weekend.

Shortly before noon Saturday, two people were hurt when a motorcycle crashed in the Amboy area, said Sgt. Duncan Hoss of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred in a remote area near the 37000 block of Northeast Rotschy Road and reportedly injured at least one teenager, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Details were scarce, but Hoss said that there were two people on the motorcycle at the time of the crash. One was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center while the other was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Their identities and information about the extent of their injuries were not available Sunday.

The Saturday crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s Traffic Unit, and more information was expected to be released to the public soon, Hoss said.
