Letter: Attacks on progressives baseless

The Columbian
Published: August 24, 2015, 5:00pm

I was surprised that The Columbian published a letter that launched a vituperative and baseless attack on progressives, a letter that in my view (and admittedly, I am a progressive), bordered on hate speech (“Progressive ‘thinking’ worshipped,” Aug. 18). In his letter, Mike Goodpaster made numerous baseless accusations about so-called progressives and concluded by implying, without any basis in fact, that it was progressives that were somehow responsible for the Holocaust.

He should know that it was the fascist conservative, Adolf Hitler, who caused the Holocaust and that he also filled his trains with “progressives” who opposed his genocidal policies.

In my view, letters such as that one serve no useful purpose other than to incite hate. We have quite enough hate in America today without giving it further exposure in The Columbian.
