It’s with intrigue and concern that I address a recent epistolary endeavor, wherein it laments the purported misalignment of statistics between the missive of Mr. Bredstrand and the apparent numerical gospel enshrined at Neilsberg.com (“Ridgefield enjoys steady leadership,” Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 26).
The condemnation of fishing for supportive statistics to confirm bias, while proffering alternative statistics for a conflicting bias, is a gem of irony. The disheartenment stems from Bredstrand’s portrayal of Ridgefield’s leadership, lauding it for passion and commitment, missing the disparity between the steadfastness of leadership and the dynamic demands of a city on the rise.
This month witnessed the ousting of an exemplary mayor, replaced anonymously in a clandestine session. The irony of advocating for progress while orchestrating opaque power plays shrouded in anonymity is comedic brilliance. Relishing the absurdity of this letter, note its author — Tana Aichele, wife of Councilor Rob Aichele. The irony of professing an independent voice while potentially yielding to unseen manipulation adds a layer of intrigue.
The comedy of contradictions and Ridgefield leadership’s crooked machinations has not escaped notice. The clamor for change from the burgeoning demographic is an indictment of the status quo, a stagnation masked as steadfastness. This city deserves better leadership.
