Two transient men who allegedly had more than a pound of methamphetamine made first appearances in Clark County Superior Court on Thursday.

Raymundo Meza-Garcia, 24, and Jose A. Deniz-Ortiz, 34, appeared on suspicion of methamphetamine possession with the intent to deliver. Deniz-Ortiz faces an additional allegation of methamphetamine possession.

Officers with the regional drug task force stopped the men Tuesday as they attempted to deliver some methamphetamine to someone at a store in Battle Ground, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the men’s vehicle and seized about a pound of crystal meth, the affidavit said.

A subsequent search at their Vancouver hotel room turned up an additional package of methamphetamine, court records said.

As Deniz-Ortiz was being booked into the Clark County Jail, a corrections deputy found a small plastic bag containing meth during a strip search, according to court documents.

Judge Daniel Stahnke set each man’s bail at $75,000, court records show.

They are scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 10.
