Vancouver Housing Authority received a $194,217 grant to maintain its Family Self-Sufficiency Program, which helps low-income residents achieve financial independence.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development disbursed nearly $1.9 million to 15 housing authorities around Washington. The Longview and Columbia Gorge housing authorities were among the agencies that received funding.
Three service coordinators at VHA help impoverished families “find jobs, increase earned income, reduce or eliminate the need for rental and/or welfare assistance, and make progress toward achieving economic independence and self-sufficiency,” according to HUD.
