A pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday morning by a Sounder commuter train just north of Auburn.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the train, operated by a BNSF crew, was traveling from Tacoma to Seattle when the accident happened at about 6:45 a.m.
Both freight and passenger train service were stopped in the area south of Seattle for the investigation.
Melonas said this was the 26th train-pedestrian fatality in 2015, which is the highest number of fatal train accidents in Washington state in the past 20 years.
