The local Habitat for Humanity group will dedicate its 31st home in Clark County at 3 p.m. today.

The house at 3603 O St. in Vancouver’s Rose Village neighborhood is the future home of Michelle and Charles Frost and their three children, Katelyn, Serenity and Charles Jr.

The Frost family can’t move in quite yet, however. Today’s event celebrates the end of the construction phase, but there is a stack of paperwork to process before the Frosts take up residence. The anticipated move-in period is early February, said Heather Cochrun, outreach coordinator for Evergreen Habitat for Humanity.

While it’s the 31st home in the county for the nonprofit organization, the structure represents something of a new approach for Evergreen Habitat for Humanity,

The house is the result of a recent partnership with the Evergreen school district. Students in a class at Mountain View and Evergreen high schools were able to earn math credits while getting hands-on experience in the building trades.

Student groups from the two schools each built a half of the house on campus; the two halves were trucked to the building site and put together in October.

The first house in the high school-Habitat partnership was moved onto its foundation on Sept. 9, 2013.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with its focus on community service, was a fitting opportunity for today’s dedication, Cochrun said.
