A 21-year-old man was injured after he rode a skateboard while holding onto a pickup and fell Tuesday afternoon in east Vancouver.

The skateboarder was holding onto the side of a moving pickup, an activity known as “skitching” or skate hitching. He lost control and slid under the vehicle, which ran over him, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

The crash was reported just before 4 p.m. at Northeast 48th and 47th streets in the Burnt Bridge Creek neighborhood.

The skateboarder, whose name was not released, was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with a serious leg injury, Kapp said. The Vancouver Police Department’s traffic unit is investigating the incident.
